Edited by Filippo Maggia Gabriele Basilico Text by Hans Ulrich Obrist Stefano Boeri Renate Siebenhaar Gabriele Basilico
Gabriele Basilico is one of the best-known ‘documentary’ photographers in Europe. His principal field of research is the city and the industrialized landscape, photographed in black and white and with extreme rigour. An architect by training, he is committed to imposing discipline on spaces and volumes.
This archive of Basilico’s photographs of Berlin is the result of three separate visits in 2000. Basilico had already photographed the city in 1990, when he documented the demolition of the Wall; this volume reflects the enormous changes that have taken place in the city since then and the rhythm of a modern urban environment in the throes of monumental change.
